Innovative, reliable, cost effective managed Ethernet switches offer what is claimed to be the fastest Ethernet recovery time in the world today - less than 5 millisec

For many organisations, IT infrastructure and related networking technology must operate continuously with minimal redundancy or downtime. Recovery time for a network is therefore critical. Korenix, an emerging manufacturer of Ethernet connectivity devices based in Taiwan, has just launched a new range of innovative, reliable, cost effective Managed Ethernet Switches, available through UK distributor M A C Solutions UK.
The latest JetNet 5010G Gigabit Managed Ethernet switch offers the fastest Ethernet recovery time in the world today - less than 5 millisec.

The density of new features and patented technology provided in the JetNet 5010G is astounding and only serves to demonstrate the technical excellence of Korenix-developed products.

And the JetNet 5010G is a fine example.

The device is the only industrial Ethernet switch in the world to provide three Gigabit SFP connections in one modular design.

Most competing suppliers can only offer two SFP connections per switch at best, other vendors require users to purchase three separate SFP models and three separate RJ45 models to achieve the desired connectivity. As well as offering a fast recovery time, the units provide a number of benefits and technical advantages, including modular design technologies, excellent software and connectivity features, protection against harsh environments, power redundancy, high port density and Gigabit SX multi-mode 550M, LX single-mode 10km or more, as well as 1000Mbps Fibre.

* Gigabit fibre technology - providing Gigabit fibre technology is a strong selling point, because it offers noise immunity, greater cable distances and electrical isolation problems witnessed by many industrial companies these days.

There are three SFP modules on the unit, which cater for all user requirements.

A range of fibre optic cabling options are provided by modular connectors, up to 2km lengths with multi-mode and up to 30km in single mode.

Two digital inputs and two digital outputs are also provided.

As well as fibre optic ports, the device uniquely offers three Gigabit copper ports.

These enable companies to mix media i.e use both copper and fibre optic cabling, using copper between lower cost network devices if they wish.

Korenix recently conducted a successful network redundancy test, involving 250 of its JetNet 5010G units.

The devices were tested with seven loops of Rapid Super Ring and Dual Homing II with Cisco 3650 switches.

When man-made broken links occurred in any of the seven Ring loops and a broken link path was induced in one of the Cisco 3650 switches, it still generated 50% unicast traffic and 5,000 MAC-addresses to the ring.

This is a milestone for Korenix that such a high number of linked switches did not affect network performance or reliability.

More importantly, when Korenix conducted further tests to measure the time needed to reboot 250 JetNet 5010G units, a very low average of 60 seconds was achieved.

A sixty second re-booting time for 250 linked switches is a revolutionary achievement, commend Tim Ricketts, general manager at M A C Solutions (UK).

Korenix has once again developed a world class product with the JetNet 5010G.

Korenix has again demonstrated its ability to develop truly innovative world-first products.

The JetNet 5010G supports a comprehensive range of interfaces and connectivity management tools, including VLAN/GVRP/QoS/IGMP Snooping/Rate Control and Online Multi-Port Mirroring, SNMP/RMON Network Management, web Interface, and Cisco-like CLI via RS232 console.

Event notification is also possible via email, SNMP trap and Syslog.

For most industrial applications, the most common redundant Ethernet LAN (Local Area Network) topology is a ring.

Korenix’s patented Rapid Super Ring (RSR) technology is specifically designed for meeting the fast recovery time requests in industrial ring networks, offering a recovery time of 30 milliseconds.

However, Korenix’s latest Rapid Super Ring 2 (RSR2) technology enables the JetNet 5010G to recover in just 5 milliseconds, significantly faster than any competing technology on the market.

Interoperability between different ring topologies and vendors is critical.

The JetNet 5010G works with all open’ network topologies, enabling companies to integrate the device quickly and easily into their existing IT infrastructure at minimal cost and disruption.

Korenix’s patented super-extended Dual Homing II technology helps connect the Super Ring to other ring redundancy protocols, such as RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol).

This technology ensures that the rings communicate well and the dual homing paths can backup each other.

For example, the user can auto-select one Dual Homing uplink path as an Active Link, while the other is a and hot standbylink.

To further reduce recovery time and increase link capacity, the JetNet 5010G is equipped with IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP).

This enables the device to automatically port bundle dynamically between switches.

Two or more Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet connections are combined in order to increase the bandwidth and to create resilient and redundant links.

Another unique feature of the JetNet 5010G is its auto elect ring master functionality.

Most other Managed Ethernet switches employ a master-slave relationship across a network ring.

This means appointing a master switch and slave units.

The problem here is if the master switch fails, what are the consequences?

Potential chaos can occur.

With the JetNet 5010G, each switch on the network is defined by a priority number using its MAC address (unique ID number).

If the elected master switch fails, the master tag is passed to the next highest priority weighted switch and this unit becomes the new master switch.

On the power side, the JetNet 5010G caters for both standard and non-standard power source systems.

It is equipped with a dual-mode power mechanism, for 24V or 48V DC, which means the device can detect different input power voltages, enabling it to automatically perform power device detection, classification, powering and disconnection processes.

Because of this dual mode capability, the device is ideal for applications where there is no access to a 48V DC power source.

This means adoption is likely to be very high in the transportation (vehicle, aviation and other public transport) sectors where access to a 24V DC power supply is standard.

Unlike most other industrial Gigabit Managed Ethernet switches, the JetNet 5010G is designed in a single-piece, rugged, IP31 aluminium housing for harsh industrial and transportation/infrastructure applications.

The JetPort 5604i series is a 4-port Isolation Redundant Serial Device Server equipped with two types of power inputs, four 5V TTL Digital Inputs and two Digital Outputs

Korenix has launched the JetPort 5604i series is a 4-port Isolation Redundant Serial Device Server. Users can use one IP address, Redundant Ethernet paths (RTTD Technology) to control maximum of 4 serial devices over the Ethernet. To configure JetPort Commander, the easy- to- use utility for Windows or choose HTTPS/SSH for secured management.
JetPort 5604i series are also equipped with two types of power inputs, four 5V TTL Digital Inputs and two Digital Outputs.

JetPort 5604i especially provides 2KV isolation protection for the critical industrial environments.

These are value-added feature for user to construct the field installation.
JetPort 5604i series provide dual Ethernet ports.

When the dual Ethernet ports are connected, only one path will be activated, this is known as Primary path.

The un-activated path will be the Backup path.

When the primary path is down, the backup path will recover Ethernet connection in less than 200ms.

JetPort 5604i series provide four digital inputs and two digital outputs.

It allows users to connect the termination units’ 5V TTL digital input/output.

JetPort Commander allows you to monitor the status of the DI and DO, and assign the value of 0 or 1 to DO.

JetPort also provides one data port for user to program DI/O ‘get’ and ’set’ commands figure on the right.

The logic Low (Value=0) power voltage is 0-0.8V, 0.8V is the max value.

The logic High (Value =1) power voltage is 2-5V, 2V is the min value.

JetPort also opens one TCP socket port for DI/DO programming commands.

JetPort 5604i equipped with 2KV optical isolation protection and 15KV ESD surge protection of serial interfaces.

Optical isolation solves the problem of ground looping which can severely garble communications, by effectively lifting the connection between the serial data line and ‘ground’ at either end of the serial networking line.

HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol over Secure Socket Layer or HTTP over SSL) is a Web protocol built into browser that encrypts and decrypts user’s page requests as well as the pages that are returned by the Web server.

It is a security protocol that provides communication privacy over the Internet.

By adapting HTTPS technology, encrypted data packets can be transmitted safely between the JetPort 5604i and PC web browser, preventing unauthorized access.

The SSH technology enables users to securely login to remote host computers; it uses a client/server architecture to provide secure communications between two non-trusted ends.

Due to the utilisation of a steel ‘U’ channel body design, a more rigid structure is created in compact positioning tables when compared to the more traditional designs

These linear positioning tables from Micromech use a steel ‘U’ channel body design making a more rigid structure. They also integrate the bearing and ball screw nut, creating a more compact overall footprint. Specifically designed to reduce overall machine cost and allow manufacturers to speed their time to market, the rugged 402XE and 403XE are available in a complete compact package with motor and limit sensors included.
For simple customisation, the 402/403XE can be ordered with mounting for other motors to meet customer-specific application requirements.

Due to the utilisation of a steel ‘U’ channel body design, a more rigid structure is created when compared to traditional positioning tables.

The steel ‘U’ channel design also allows for integration of the bearing and ball screw nut within the structure creating a more compact overall footprint while providing higher load-carrying capacities versus more common bearing/actuator designs.
The tables use a gothic arch configuration with four points of contact for each ball in the bearing set, this design assures smooth motion while achieving high precision capabilities.

The 402XE are supplied as standard in a 50mm wide footprint but when used with an optional hardcover the footprint increases slightly to 57mm wide.

The 403XE are either 60mm or 80mm wide without or with the hardcover option.

The 402XE comes in four lengths 70, 120,170 and 220mm and takes loads up to 90kg, the 403XE has seven lengths from 55 through to 605mm carrying loads up to 160kg.

Both tables have repeatability of +/- 5u.

Easily integrated into multi-axis designs and adjustment free the tables are a significant cost saver for today’s demanding manufacturers.

This exciting range extends Micromech’s product line capabilities to further accommodate application requirements in the medical, hard disk, lab automation, and high-tech markets.

They also offer a robust engineering solution for OEMs and machine builders who currently deal with long lead times and poor response times or have dealt with the frustration of designing, purchasing, inventorying, assembling, and testing all the components required to ‘build your own’ positioning table.

Positioning tables and motion controls offer low cost solution for large frame positioning systems having cleats that make for simple multi-axis positioning system configuration

The BiSlide range of modular positioning tables, available exclusively throughout Europe from LG Motion, provide extremely cost effective manual and motorised positioning solutions for medium precision manufacturing and research applications such as gantry style pick and place and scanning systems.
The simple and flexible BiSlide table design is based around an extruded ‘I’ beam hard aluminium alloy profile with dual 45 deg opposing ‘V’ ways offering high structural rigidity in all load directions.

Low-friction, bonded PTFE compound bearing pads on the moving carriage with fully adjustable pre-load allow high load capacity with excellent impact load resistance.

Using a system of cleats to interconnect individual axes rather than expensive mounting plates further reduces assembled costs and the simple and reusable assembly method allows an almost endless variety of mounting configurations.

The BiSlide range is available in a single width with a cross section of 38.6mm x 87.0mm and with travel lengths from 125mm to 2m.

A choice of 1.0mm or 2.0mm pitch, precision-grade acme lead screws with thrust bearing support and a special StabilNut nut assembly with externally adjustable preload simplifies manual and motorised application set-up.
Overall axis repeatability is within 5 micron and straight-line accuracy is 75 micron over the entire travel distance.

Maximum direct loading capability is around 140kg with options for increased or cantilever loading available on request.

For low cost motorised applications, the VXM stepper motor controller includes an RS232 connected programmable control and drives for up to four size 17, 23 or 34 stepper motors.

With standalone operation using its simple COSMOS programming language or with embedded programming capability via LabView, Visual BASIC, C++, VB.Net, C#, and others, the VMX features non-volatile memory storage for up to four user-created programs and includes an easy-to-use graphical interface for set-up and status.

A complement of I/O for overtravel limit switches and homing functions are included with options of I/O breakout units, analogue or digital joysticks and a user input terminal.

A recent non-destructive test, scanning application included the design, manufacture and supply of a 2m x 2m X-Z gantry positioning system with the VXM programmable stepper controller with motors at a total installed cost of less than GBP 9000.00.

The positioning system included the vertical frame, parallel coupled Z-axis with a single bridge X-axis supporting a moving carriage carrying test instrumentation.

For such a large scanning area, the cost of this positioning system indicates the competitive pricing structure for the BiSlide and VXM combination.

LG Motion is also able to offer the BiSlide range with a variety of additional motor drives and motion control systems from its extensive range of manufactured components and systems.

Aerotech’s ALS5000 series linear stages are rugged and sealed, combining direct-drive motor technology and linear motion guide bearings

With a ruggedised and fully sealed design, Aerotech’s ALS5000 series linear stages combine direct-drive motor technology and linear motion guide bearings, for high precision positioning of large payloads in harsh production environments. The range is available in a choice of widths: The ALS5000 series (279 mm wide) has seven travel range options from 200 mm to 1000 mm.
The ALS500WB series (571 mm wide) has five travel range options 450 mm to 1000 mm.

The wide base version is designed to facilitate X-Y mounting and accommodate larger offset stage loading.

It also includes a dual linear motor drive to provide the extra power needed for high speed positioning.

The ALS5000 design allows its use in the most demanding production application environments such as ceramic scribing or laser machining.

Protecting the stage from hot sparks and debris, the hard top and integral metal waycovers have a Teflon impregnated hard-coat finish for maximum durability and scratch resistance.
A unique, tensioned side-strap seal allows free travel of the tabletop whilst maintaining a tight seal - further protecting the stage bearing, motor and encoder.

An optional air-purge feature allows air or specialist gases to be forced into the interior of the stage causing a positive pressure and ensuring that the stage is totally sealed against particle ingress.

Both stage width designs include ample mounting holes that can be accessed without dismantling for straightforward installation and a fully integrated chain type cable management system is included.

The combination of direct-drive, cog-free brushless servo motors and choice of standard precision or high accuracy linear encoders provide the ALS5000 series with smooth and precise, zero backlash motion that is ideally suited to tightly synchronised multi-axis positioning.

Also providing excellent in-position stability, the friction and cog-free servo motor and feedback system offers extremely long life when compared to ballscrew driven stages.

The comparison with ballscrew driven stage designs also illustrates that the ALS5000 offers a lower profile and a more compact design with a smaller footprint.

This comparison can be extended to cost of ownership factors such as much improved throughput, less maintenance and a greatly increased working life - these features combine to make direct-drive systems the naturally preferred choice.

With a maximum speed of 2 m/s and with load acceleration of up to 30 m/s2 the ALS5000 series is available with a best resolution of just 0.001 um with the high precision encoder option and 0.005 um for the standard precision encoder.

Nominal accuracy is +/-40.0 um for the 1 metre travel version, however stages can be supplied with the HALAR interferometer calibrated accuracy option where all travel ranges can achieve up to +/-1.0 um in combination with Aerotech’s A3200 Automation Platform motion control system.

Stage repeatability is up to +/- 0.5 um, uncalibrated straightness and flatness for the standard stage is 2 um per 25 mm of travel with the HALSF option available to provide much higher calibrated values if required.

Equally impressive specifications for pitch yaw and roll are available and as with all Aerotech mechanical systems, are covered in detail in the product sections at Aerotech’s website www.aerotech.com .

Aerotech manufactures a wide range of servo amplifiers and advanced motion controllers for complete positioning solutions across manufacturing and research applications.

These include the A3200 Digital Automation Platform with up to 32 axes of Firewire interfaced high performance motion and machine control.

This software based control system combines motion and optional HMI, PLC and vision control modules and is programmable in a choice of languages including Aerotech’s own AEROBasic, RS274 G-code, C, C++, VisualBasic, Delphi and LabviewTM.

The Firewire distributed control architecture typically delivers fully deterministic motion updates to Aerotech’s Ndrive servo drives - available in a wide choice of power ratings.

Independently processing position velocity and current loops at closure rates of up to 20 KHz, the combination of A3200 and Ndrives avoids the processing bottleneck associated with hardware-based single processor control systems.

An additional Ethernet 10/100 Base T interface may be used to add third party I/O and PLC’s.

Every Aerotech system comes fully tested and includes motor power and encoder cables plus performance and calibration related documents.
